What is domestique?

In road cycling, a domestique is a rider who forgoes their own chances of winning in support of a team leader to help them win a grand tour, such as the Tour De France, for example. Domestiques fetch water bottles and nutrition for the star rider, block the wind to allow the star rider to draft, saving valuable watts and energy and thus improving their chances of winning.
